Surgical Sperm Retrieval Technique

Surgical Sperm Retrieval is a revolutionary surgical technique used to collect a small number of sperm directly from the epididymis or testicles. This technique is used to help couples where the male partner has certain ejaculatory disorders or no sperm in the ejaculation.
SSR technique is used with in vitro fertilization (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to increase the chance of conceiving.

Surgical sperm retrieval may be a treatment option for men with:

  • An obstruction preventing sperm release, due to a spinal / pelvic injury or infection
  • Congenital absence of the vas deferens (the tube which carries the sperm to the penis
