Female Infertility – Causes and Diagnosis

Infertility is inability to conceive because of any reason. Infertility affects approximately 1 out of every 6 couples all over the world. It is growing at an alarming rate. It is affecting more and more Indian couples nowadays with equal preponderance amongst men and women. When the cause of infertility exists within the female partner, it is referred to as female infertility.

Female infertility is caused by one or more of following factors.

Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside uterus grows outside patient’s uterus.

The root cause of female infertility can be difficult to diagnose. But there are a number of diagnostic techniques available to help pinpoint the cause of infertility.

There are some basic steps used by a fertility specialist to evaluate woman infertility:
1. Medical history by a certified fertility specialist
2. Physical Examination by a certified fertility specialist

After evaluating the basic steps of woman infertility, a fertility specialist would recommend the following diagnostic tests on the basis of each woman’s specific conditions.

Ultrasonography – It is used to evaluate uterine or ovarian abnormalities in women who have difficulty getting pregnant or experience multiple miscarriages. 

In most of the cases, the above basic infertility testing will provide helpful information regarding the possible cause of infertility and most importantly, facilitate effective infertility treatment.
